My Top 3 Travel Secrets for Travel (and Korea)

For travel  bloggers, nothing is more fun than to share trade secrets with other travelers or with your community. When Chris of South Korea posted his Top 3 Travel Secrets and tagged me in it, I was thrilled. I too, had seen the year-old Tripbase travel meme on Legal Nomads‘ blog and commented on it almost the week before receiving this challenge.

As I said, I excited to share some of my new travel secrets…

Korean Love Motels: Suncheon & Korean Porn

It was another weekend romp with my new travel BFF, Chance and we were on  back on the Korean Love Motel Tour. Again.  On our way back from a misty day at Boseong Tea Fields and the green tea saltwater spa at Yulpo, we decided to sleepover in Suncheon.  We arrived in Suncheon bus terminal at 11PM, headed straight for the flourescent lights and the first cheesy-sounding  motel.

Love motels are one word… fun!

First stop: Motel BMW.

The front desk clerk tried convincing us that being a Saturday night, all the rooms in town were sold out and he had the last one.  That’s the first time I’ve met a hustling Korean! There were several motels in the neighboring radius; and I didn’t believe Suncheon would be that sex-crazed a city to warrant each pad fully booked. And it wasn’t… (more…)

Korean Love Motels: Jeonju to Gunsan (Digs & Dives )

Without further ado, I’ll  introduce some of the digs and dives from our Korean Love Motel Tour. Apologies in advance for the shoddy photos. Much of my instances were low-lit/dark and I wanted to be quick in taking them (guess the only real shady thing about the love motels was me!).  Here’s a brief look at some gems we found:

Finding love in the Korean Love Motel

Home is where I lay my headis a true saying for me, but “I just want somewhere to lay my head for the night” are words you’ll seldom hear uttered from my lips. However, “cheap” doesn’t need to mean crappy and “adventure” doesn’t have to entail bugs.  One of my favorite travel experiences (more…)

White Sheets Review: “PJ Hotel: Seoul ’boutique’ with urban chic!”

Seeing as I’m already on my ultra favorite topic–hotels and accommodations– I’ll continue before posting my Part II to Finding Love in a Korean Love Motel: The Digs & Dives (*heh heh)…

When you think of staying in an international city like Seoul, there are few hotels you think you’ll get for under $100/night and if you do, people might caution you to it being a Korean Love motel. So when my sister found an awesome deal on Orbitz and booked my family into a hotel which didn’t have a website (only the Korea Google search pops it up), for $89/night ( 1/3 its listed website price), I had all the reason to be a little reluctant.  Worried, really… The good news is (more…)

Being a Vegetarian in Korea: The Costco Honeymoon begins… (Part III)

I take back what i said in my first Daegu Costco blog about it being “eh”. I’m glad I’m a Costco (pronounced: Co-su-tu-co for your cabbie) member! Why? Their stock of imported foods didn’t expand, new “tech toys” didn’t hit the shelves. As far as I’m concerned, Daegu Costco hasn’t changed since the last time I visited it. So what did?

Sleeping at a Jjimjilbang (a Korean bathhouse & sauna)

For all you travelers and expats looking to tour Korea on the cheap, a friend once mentioned staying overnight at a jjimjilbang as a way to hurdle hostel and budget hotel costs (which may run anywhere from a low $18-40); since then, the jjimjilbang culture has been a phenomenon to me.
