Trina Good to know that you can finally book through the IRTC and the bugs are worked out. The Indian phone number bit– I take it, they don’t state that a foreign number can be used?

Yeah, It’s much easier to book everything with Indian travel agents there. Saves so much time, stress, it’s easy and quick. But for those who need peace of mind, booking online can be preferred. Thanks for sharing your finding!

Hey just an update: foreign credit card is now accepted via IRCTC but you still need an indian phone number to help you serve better. If not, enter your foreign number with Country Code infront of it and then send an email to IRCTC..who then approves it and allow you to book further. However, I completely agree with you…such a hassle+time consuming and would not recommend. I did it through a travel agent at the end but they did email few days after approving my account and allowing me to book. 🙂

Hey so I opened an account through IRCTC and obvious dont have the indian phone number to verify the code. I send them an email as per suggestion to verify my account anyway and allow me to book. It has been 4 days but no respond yet. Any idea how long they take to reply?

Hey ! I’m travelling to India this summer and I am a bit concerned about safety and getting sick. I’m going to Kolkata to volunteer with the missionaries of charity. I have to get a taxi from the airport to the centre of Kolkata, do you know what are the right ones to take? I admire you so much for being so brave to travel on your own. Thank you
