@Bruce: Wow! 61 and still rocking the mountain treks! You may not have young knees but you put me to shame-- you're much more fit! But I concur with the difficulty of getting reliable direction help ... in Daegu in general. Koreans mean well, but their help doesn't always help. Ha ha... Glad you found your way and for sharing your experience!

I forgot to add that you can take the #401 bus from outside Daegu station for only 1100 won if you have a travel card and 1200 won if you don't. If all you're going to do is hike, this makes more economic sense than the 5000 won tourist bus.

Not to brag, but rather to point out that if you're in good shape, the trek up can be done in 25 minutes. I'm 61 and that was my time today. Needless to say, I was hiking very hard and without rest and testing myself to see how quickly I could do it. There are numerous other hiking trails on the mountain and I was able to enjoy about 12 Km of hiking today. Be advised that there is very little English spoken and I was constantly given wrong directions, thus turning my 4 km hike into a 12 km hike. That said, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
Also be advised that it's probably tougher coming down than going up, since the trail is steep. Wish I had younger knees!
