@Ylling: EXCELLENT question. I actually took my passport and international drivers permit (a permit to drive internationally on top of your country license). If you don’t have the latter, then you can probably use your passport & driver’s license. Some places turn a blind eye and might let you get away with a passport. If you’re driving in Korea/rental car, then you definitely need an international drivers license w/ your passport…. or a Korean driver’s license.

@Roxanne: Annyonghaseyo! Though I didn’t stay there overnight, I did see a bunch of minbaks and places to stay. I would check with the Korean Tourism Organization online resources, also Hostelworld. I know once you get into the Jeju airport, the KTO info booth is there also– they can refer you to places. But if you want to wing it, you might even be able to show up and try to book something unannounced, depending on the season. Good luck!

I’ve been planning to go to Jeju-do since I arrived. When I typed in Jeju Island vacation your website came up. I booked marked it because its exactly the trip I’ve been looking for. I think I would like to do a tour of Udo Island. I am just curious, do you know if there are hotels/motels or hostels on Udo island? I’m considering renting an ATV to tour the island but I was also thinking of staying for a day to do other things on the island, like if there is horseback riding. I just can’t seem to find any information online if there is a hotel on Udo.

Since I arrived in Korea I’ve been eager to travel 🙂

@Jason: I originally wanted to ride a bike, but there wasn’t enough time. Definitely try the scooter, if you get the chance. If you have an international driver’s license, I’d take it for the “in case”. While I wasn’t asked for it, on Jeju, some scooter rentals only rent to those w/ that license.
