Not sure when this was posted but I don’t think the food has survived the ensuing years. 210 baht, while not terrible, gets you a small airline tray of food today. Banana muffin is the highlight .

In reply to francaangloitalian. @franca: The overnight train between CM and Bangkok is definitely an experience in itself, but definitely more than the bus. In a way, you might be safer at the moment-- I've been reading that train has been having a lot of derailing accidents. =(

I wish we took the train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok too, it would have been slightly more pricey than the overnight bus we ended up on but at least we would have been comfortable.

Have to agree that’s a nice clean train. And like you, I would still hose down the toilet and sanitize the flap…
