In reply to jaime. Oh thanks Jaime! We're only visiting Lisbon and Porto and pretty nervous drivers in foreign lands. Walking around the city centres and getting a train between the two might just be the answer after all :)

In reply to Sarah. Hello Sara, I live in lisbon and my opinion about that is... If you only visit Lisbon and oneother places near to lisbon, dont rent a car, because in most part of the city you need to pay to park the car, however lisbon have many cars and most of times you can't find a place to park your car. the same thigh i apllie to Porto. in the both cityes you can visit the center walking. But if you go to other places yes, rent a car! trains and buses are limited and expensive.

I’m off to Portugal in July and can’t wait! The fact it is a cheap destination in Europe to travel to was certainly a drawcard already but the car point was surprising to learn and I now know to take a flashlight 😉

Great tips. Pickpocketers are very prevoluent in Lisbon. So, keep a close eye on your belongings. We really enjoyed going to the coast towels. People were friendly and the views were wonderful.
