Hi. I haven't yet applied for my 4 month visa yet. My school where I will study, has listed that I am studying 4 months. I am planning to travel in the last month, to 4 major areas Xi-an, Tiger Gorge, ? Yuangany Rice terraces, and fly out of Shanghai. When Traveling alone and Hosteling, it is nice to stay flexible .
Will I have trouble buying fast train or flight tickets once I am in China? Must one pre book every step - before they enter China?

I cheated and travel with my Chinese wife.
Good tip on the toilets and I always have a pack of wet wipes in my pocket.
We don't agree on the street food as that is our favorite place for food, especially for breakfast. Breakfast on the street in China is pretty popular. Look for the long lines for the good stuff.
Always remember the Chinese have to boil the water and the house usually has a big thermos of safe water available. Stay clear of raw vegetables as they often get washed in tap water. I drank a lot of tea an beer - both safe.
CDC recommends 1 Pepto Bismol tablet a day to help prevent Montezuma's Revenge (Mao's Revenge in China). Seems to work.

Hello and thank you, gets you most things. Look up on Pinterest the handsigns for numbers. That was confusing at first. Smile. Point. Same as anywhere really. Depending if it is a tourist area. You might get lots of kids following and wanting photos and wanting to speak English. Oh and if other teachers take him out stay away from "white wine" it is clear, has about 53% alcohol content and tastes like nail polish

That's cool. If he is close to shanghai or Hangzhou. Please let us know and we can catch up. I know it's a huge place. I agree with everything on that page. Wechat is great. Get it before you leave and play. And itranslate app. Is better for conversation than google translate. Google translate is great for realtime translation of menus and things. Watch where the locals eat. What street food they eat. You know it's safe then.
