VIDEO: How to Get a Myanmar Visa in Bangkok

There was nothing so easy as applying for a same day Myanmar visa in Bangkok.

Okay, well maybe some things, like paying an agency to do it for you.

How did I do it?  I did a Google search, found two travel blog sites with information (thanks Leave your Daily Hell  & Two Travelholics)  and copied directions into my iPodTouch.

There.  Easy-peasy. Well, sorta..  I still got lost.

How to Get a Myanmar Visa in Bangkok

The 2-minute video above will take you through the step-by-step process getting your Myanmar visa in Bangkok, without getting lost like me. You’ll see the location, how I got there and what’s involved (and how sweaty and travel haggard I am making this video).  For those who prefer to read what’s in the video, the cut-n-pasted info is down below)

.

Getting to the Embassy of Myanmar in Bangkok

Location:

Embassy of the Union of Myanmar,  Bangkok, Thailand
Address: 132 Sathorn Nua Road  (the front of the embassy, but not the exact location of the visa application)
Phone: 662-233-2237, 234-4698, 233-7250, 234-0320

Directions:

Take the BTS Skytrain,  get off at Surasak. Follow exit 3 down the stairs and turn right. Walk around seven minutes, under the Skytrain overpass and in the same direction as the flow of traffic. Go a couple of blocks, pass a Christian school on your left until you get to a non-descript looking street called, Thanon Pan street. Turn left on this street and the Embassy of Myanmar in Bangkok is located a half block down.

Tip: If you’re taking a taxi, it’s likely they’ll drop you at the address below. That’s the front of the Embassy of Myanmar . The actual visa application building is on the nearby street (Thanon Pan)  around the corner. If you ask the guard, he’ll direct you so (watch my video)

Embassy of Myanmar Operating Hours:

Visa applications:  9 am to 12 noon
Same day pickup:  1pm to 3pm

Advice: The day I went it wasn’t crowded at all so I didn’t have to wait longer than three people. This may not always be the case. So best to arrive early.

How long does it take to process a visa:

The normal processing time is two days, so if you can wait that long, the price will be cheaper.  Other options are a same-day or one-day rush and you pay a little more.

Documents to Bring:

•  Passport
•  A xerox copy of your passport
•  2 passport photos
•  Baht (They won’t accept credit cards or ATM cards; only cash)

There are shops that take passport photos around town and likely, your hotel can point you to the nearest available ones as well as make xerox copies of your passport for you.

Tip: There is also a purported alley shop, 50 meters further down the street from the visa entrance. It should have  yellow signs outside saying “copy, photo, myanmar services.” Here’s a photo by Two Travelholics. You can get this photo and copy services done there too if you forget anything. I’ve not used their services, so I can’t recommend them, but other travelers have used them.

What is supplied at the embassy:

•  Application form
•  Glue sticks to fix your passport photos to the form

How long is the visa valid for?

The visa is valid for 3 months after the date of issue. It cannot be extended so please plan accordingly.

How much does a visa cost?

As of June 2013:

Same day visa costs = (come back in the afternoon around 3:30pm)=  1,200 baht  (*this is what I got)
Next day visa processing = 1,000 baht
Standard two-day processing = 810 baht
