Polynesian Cultural Center’s Haunted Lagoon
The Lady of Laie is back each year to haunt the Polynesian Cultural Center‘s lagoon!
Haunted Lagoon at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie is the biggest Halloween productions I’ve seen on Oahu. The Polynesian Cultural Center itself is acres of sets to take you into the story of Polynesian culture. But there’s no cultural show on these nights. Instead, pirates, ghouls, killer clowns, headless ghosts, shrieking zombies andwerewolves walk the park. Polynesian Cultural Center makes sure you won’t leave without a several good screams.
Outside the entrance, watch a video back story about the Laie Lady’s wail. Once inside the park, there’s a 3D haunted house to harvest your screams. Yes, 3D and I couldn’t stop screaming! Put on the glasses you’re given and watch your macabre surroundings leap at you through twelve zombie-infested rooms and if you think that’s the end, think again. Just before entering the canoe ride, you’ll need to endure one last stab of fright before getting to the pier – the creaky walk through a haunted boathouse!
Tip: Take the canoe ride through the Lagoon
The spotlight attraction is the canoe ride and it’s epic. It serves up a mixed plate of hi-tech special effects and ghoulish side acts, waiting to leap out at you from the water (oops, spoiler alert!). It’s a huge production. Bring a raincoat– you could get wet!
While the lines to the canoe ride will be long (this is one of the spotlight events for Halloween), Polynesian Cultural Center promises to make time pass quickly, building your suspense through each frightful stage. There’s an impressive number of ghouls infesting this event; probably more than Hawaii has ever known!
Hawaii’s Haunted Plantation
Out in Waipahu, Hawaii Plantation Village is the playground for the Haunted Plantation. Playing off the rumors and stories of the plantation’s real ghostly inhabitants, the event houses characters from Hawaii’s plantation days. Ghastly spirits and stories occupy the houses and its un-dead might not let you leave the house or even the village! How scary is this venue? After watching the video trailer, I have to admit, I’m too scared to go. The makeup is of professional quality and it’s raised the fear factor level, so that you experience the nightmare, as if you’re walking straight into a horror flick! Not to mention, though the actors can’t touch you, they are free to roam the village ground and will get up close. Ready to test the GRRR! you can be? I’m trembling at the thought of it.
Too faint-hearted to take on the terror? Then Hawaii Plantation Village brings to you Haunted Hawaii Ghost Stories, a one hour guided tour of the plantation and houses. Walking through the village at night your guide takes you through the houses with a flashlight, sharing stories of real paranormal phenomena that’s taken place on the grounds. How real is it? Real enough to draw an episode of Ghost Hunters to come out to see. Hawaii superstition, dark houses, old historical grounds and haunted stories; not only will it raise hairs, it’ll give you chicken skin!
