Dear Love,
If there’s one thing I definitely love about Korea, is its kids. Children are absolutely magical.
This summer I got to volunteer at a English musical summer camp (click here for more). Ali Baba, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz…
Creating musicals and directing Korean kids to sing, dance and act was the highlight of my Korean life.
The photo above is from the play Peter Pan. I inserted one well-known line into the play, during a scene about the fairies dying. Peter says:
If you believe in fairies, clap your hands.
The magic in life is all about believing and having faith in making the impossible possible.
But somehow life always enters the picture. Adult reality. Work. Money. Career. A future… Worries.
Budgetting long-term travel and sustaining this homeless lifestyle of hobo traveling takes work (click here). Mostly, it can be stressful finding cheap or free places to stay along the way and juggling them at the last minute. That indeed takes a toll. I want so much to bed down somewhere for a chunk of time. So I’ve decided to go home to Hawaii for a short break before returning to Korea.
There’s a slight dread in returning home. The culture shock will be something to adapt to but mostly I’m worried about the location. The Hawaiian Islands are a lock down for easy travel… a death trap for budget travelers like myself. The exhorbitant prices of flights going anywhere outside of the islands, is enough to make me seriously consider this decision. I know the prices will scare me and will make me reconsider travel, maybe even delay it until I can get something for cheap … or free.
I guess we’ll have to see.
Wondering if the magic end,
Christine
