Worlds worst toilets: A vanity squat toilet in Boseong

Boseong Bus Terminal (South Korea)

Koreans are vain culture, concerned with how they look.  I won’t deny that accusation- Koreans, both men and women, dress very well and there are mirrors in almost every public area to assure you look good.

But how far will vanity go in Korea?

A vanity squat toilet on my way to Boseong Tea Fields

Today’s toilet makes my World’s Worst Toilets list more for odd cultural humor.

I was on my way to visit the Boseong Tea Fields in the countryside of Jeollanam-do. When I arrived into Boseong bus terminal, I had to pee.  One doesn’t expect frivolities in such rural places.

But the bus terminal restroom added a little something extra to its stalls.

As you see, there’s the toilet, the waste basket and then,… what’s on the wall right in front of you as you do your business but squat-level mirror?

Now you can check yourself while taking a whizz.

What are your world’s worst toilets experience?

  • So your number 3 worst toilet in the world is one which has indoor plumbing, relatively clean and its big offence is that there is a mirror inside for people to get a quick look at themselves?

Travel more, because there has to be at least a thousand toilets out there worse than this.

@Jackd: Open your eyes and you might realize out of all the places I’ve been to, there are worse ones on this site, because this is an ongoing series. Ignorance is the refusal to see anything deeper than the first page.

  • The best part about that bathroom is the lack of locks on the stalls! once I saw an ajuma poke her head in on every girl in there.

  • the toilet sooo cleaness…not like public toilet in my country T_T

  • At least they didn’t put the mirror on the floor…

    • @Laura: I guess that’s the one spot Koreans don’t really care to see up close. A little too close to the sex issue. haha…
@Barbara: ha ha… feng shui huh? That’s a good one. Guess while you’re picking spinach from your teeth you can contemplate that. You must have run across that bathroom when you passed thru Boseong station…

  • Yeah. Actually, I wonder if it has something to do with Feng Shui.

  • I noticed that too. And it was such a nasty bathroom to begin with. Yuck! I hate the Boseong Bus Terminal. It’s personal.
